Unlike many jurisdictions, the Cayman Islands has a registration regime for submersible craft and this is contained in Part VIII of its Merchant Shipping Law.

In addition to commercially operated submersibles, there are privately operated submersibles, sometimes carried on yachts.  Clearly, submersible craft need to be regulated and this, in turn, requires a jurisdiction that offers such regulation.
